Piers may be heavily swamped by waves. * WHERE...Mason, Oceana, Muskegon and Ottawa counties. * WHEN...Through 2 AM Monday. * IMPACTS...Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper water and high waves can sweep people off piers. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions and do not venture out on piers. Please check with your local authorities on potential beach closures.

Excessive Heat Watch issued June 16 at 3:14AM EDT until June 21 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Grand Rapids MI * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 100 possible. * WHERE...Portions of central, south central, southwest, and west central Michigan. * WHEN...From Monday afternoon through Friday evening. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heat index values near 100 degrees will have a cumulative affect through the course of the week. Temperatures at night will only fall into the 70s. So, the affect of the heat will build through the course of the week. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Air Quality Alert issued June 16 at 1:38PM EDT by NWS Grand Rapids MI The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has declared an Air Quality Advisory for Monday, June 17 for elevated levels of ozone in West Michigan. Pollutants within those areas are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG, Orange AQI) range. The Air Quality Advisory is in effect for the following Michigan counties: ALLEGAN... KENT... MUSKEGON... OCEANA OTTAWA MASON AND VAN BUREN COUNTIES It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with respiratory diseases such as asthma. People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which can lead to ozone formation. These activities include: refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling; using gasoline powered lawn equipment; using charcoal lighter fluid. Positive activities include: driving less; telecommuting; walking or bike riding; delaying or combining errands; using water-based paints.
