Heat Advisory issued June 20 at 3:10AM EDT until June 20 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT * WHAT...Heat index values up to 100. * WHERE...All of Vermont and northern New York. The hottest conditions will be in portions of the Champlain and Connecticut River Valleys. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Indoor temperatures may continue to rise after peak heating hours in poorly ventilated spaces. Those without air conditioning should consider the potential for lingering health impacts while indoors late in the day.

Special Weather Statement issued June 20 at 2:30PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT At 229 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Plattsburgh, moving east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Plattsburgh International Airport, Plattsburgh, Schuyler Falls, Georgia, Grand Isle, Milton, South Hero, Georgia Center, St. Albans City, St. Albans Town, Colchester, Fairfax, North Hero, Fairfield, Young Island, Wilcox Point, Hazen Point, West Milton, Kellogg Island, and Grand Isle State Park. This includes the following highways... Interstate 87 between mile markers 146 and 158. Interstate 89 between mile markers 97 and 114. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. If on or near Lake Champlain, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for northern New York...and northwestern Vermont.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to trees and powerlines. * Locations impacted include... Essex Junction, Plattsburgh International Airport, South Burlington, Burlington International Airport, Burlington, Plattsburgh, Peru, Schuyler Falls, Winooski, Westford, Colchester, Essex Junction Village, Williston, St. George, Milton, South Hero, Port Kent, Essex, Fairfax, and Grand Isle.
